Our kids were 12 and 14 years old when we moved. Their transition went well and the biggest challenge for them was school. Reason: school in Spain is much more demanding than in Sweden. Make sure to help them studying or get some private tutors for multiple subjects. We had a Spanish language tutor for them the entire year, and for the last 3 months we were studying with them daily.
Great, thanks for the tip. I think it would be easier for my child as she is not even 2 at the moment, but I have lots of doubts yet, mainly for her in the future. For example, my company allows me to move to BCN where they have offices in there, but from what I’ve researched so far, it does not feel the most safe and quieter place to live with a family when comparing to Stockholm. Also, unemployment rate for youngsters seems a bit high, so there things made my life not easy 😅
Your kid being that young is a big advantage. It will have plenty of time to adapt.
My experience from living in different countries is that each city has good and bad areas to live. It is probably like that also in case of BCN, so just make sure to do your research and avoid bad areas.
Another important thing to know about Spain, is that major local dialects like Catalan in BCN, are considered as the FIRST language in schools, universities and jobs. That means learning 2 Spanish dialects as the time goes by. Not a bad thing to master multiple languages, but it could be a bit overwhelming sometimes.
Just found and started reading these series as I found myself in the same spot as you once were, living in Stockholm, wanting to move to Spain haha. Thank you!
Glad that you found it useful! Good luck with the move to Spain!
Thanks for your post, this is a goldmine. I’m following the same path as you and it really helps!
Glad to hear that Henry! Good luck with your move!
Also, if you allow me to ask, how old are your children and how has it been the transition from Swedish to Spanish to them?

Yeah, makes sense. Finding a good neighbourhood is key to adapt well. And I guess it’s time to start looking at some Catalan while planning things.
Anyway, thank you and looking forward for more related content.
